Many Christian renewal and revival movements from the first century to the present have had an enduring impact upon the Christian church, as well as on the cultures in which they were situated. Such movements have often sought to reclaim neglected biblical teachings, correct distorted theology, eliminate institutional abuses, revitalize religious traditions, introduce new spiritual practices, or emphasize particular aspects of the church’s life, ministry and worship. Although the scope of this website extends beyond movements of spiritual renewal and their leaders–sometimes discussing controversial figures or movements that are considered by many to lie outside the Christian mainstream–our overall goal is to highlight the people and groups who have made a significant contribution to the ongoing development and growth of the Church around the world.
